Record Store Day Black Friday 2024.
On 29 November, it is the ideal opportunity for vinyl enthusiasts from all over the world to purchase exclusive, limited-edition releases.
As every year, the event highlights independent music culture, bringing a wide range of albums, singles and extremely rare reissues by both historic and contemporary artists to shops.
Artists and Main Releases
This year’s edition presents a list of over 100 artists, including some top names such as The Beatles, Olivia Rodrigo, Rage Against the Machine, Herbie Hancock, the Doors, Allman brothers.
Among the various musical genres and styles represented you can find a mix of classic rock, hip-hop, jazz. For example, Olivia
Rodrigo released a special version of its hit album ‘GUTS’ on marbled vinyl, while Rage Against the Machine released a recording of their 2000 concert at the Democratic National Convention.
Other interesting titles are:
– The Doors with ‘Live in Detroit’, a four-LP box set, capturing the energy of their performance at the Cobo arena on 8 May.
– Joni Mitchell presenting ‘Hejira Demos’, a collection of rare demos on 180g black vinyl.
– Jimi Hendrix with ‘Songs for Groovy Children: The Fillmore East Concerts’, on opaque coloured vinyl, dedicated to one of his most iconic concerts.
– Beatles con All my loving. This limited edition 3″ single and Beatles-branded vinyl sleeve celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Beatles’ 1964 US tour and their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on 9 February 1964. With the release of ‘All My Loving’, the 3-inch disc set of all five songs played by the band on the Ed Sullivan Show is complete. Like the previous 3-inch discs of “I Want To Hold Your Had”, “‘Til There Was You”, “She Loves You” and “I Saw Her Standing There”, this 3-inch vinyl disc is enclosed in an illustrated slipcase and includes a limited edition poster, while the sleeve is made to hold all your Beatles 3-inch records.
– Grateful dead with Veterans Memorial Coliseum, New Haven, CT 5/5/77. A limited edition 4-LP box set mastered by Jeffrey Norman from the original analogue tapes, produced for publication by David Lemieux. It contains the recording of the opening show in New Haven on 5/5/77.
In the track list there are “Sugaree”, “Scarlet > Fire”, “St. Stephen > Sugar Magnolia”, “Estimated Prophet” and what is widely regarded as one of ‘Peggy-O’s’ best performances.
Special Editions and Curiosities
An interesting element of Record Store Day Black Friday is the variety of formats and editions. Fans will be able to find limited, colourful editions and picture discs, such as Dead Or Alive’s single ‘You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)’ and Steve Martin’s picture disc with ‘King Tut’. Modest Mouse also participates with the unreleased vinyl ‘Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again’ and Phil Collins offers an EP with live recordings in an exclusive 10” edition.
Exclusives and Rare Reissues
In addition to new editions, Record Store Day Black Friday 2024 also celebrates some reissues of legendary albums. Nas offers ‘Illmatic: Remixes & Rarities’, dedicated to rap fans, while jazz pioneer Max Roach releases ‘Deeds, Not Words’ in a 180g mono edition.
Record store day black friday 2024 is also an opportunity to rediscover musical treasures from different genres, from the jazz of Duke Ellington and John Lee Hooker to the surf rock of The Challengers and the soul of The O’Jays.
Event and Participation
The event is designed to support independent record shops and offer fans a unique shopping experience. Participating shops will open at 8am, giving collectors first access to the most coveted releases. Record Store Day is not just a shopping day, but a true cultural event: many shops will also feature live performances and activities to engage the music community.
