In March 1969, Genesis released their debut album, From Genesis to revelation.
Far from the splendor that Genesis would achieve in the years to come, this album still possesses the seeds of what their music would be in the years to come.
The album, published by Decca with catalog number SKL 4990, sold around six hundred copies on its first pressing and was practically ignored by both critics and the public.
Only later, in the wake of the enormous success of Genesis, was from Genesis to revelation reprinted a myriad of times, even with a different title from the original.
It is a controversial album that is certainly not much loved by the band itself, so much so that it is often not included in collections or anthologies.
For example, in the famous 2008 box set Genesis 1970-1975, a collection that includes the Genesis period with Peter Gabriel on vocals, it does not consider From genesis to revelation as its first work and starts the discography from Trespass.
In 1990 the album was reissued as a double disc containing, in addition to the original tracks, four songs contained in And the Word Was…. and a series of interviews with the band.
